Why mental illness is on the rise in academia.

  1. Working towards a doctoral degree in grad school was AWFUL for my mental health which is why I didn’t finish. Nothing I did was good enough. Every project was slammed or put down until it was tweaked to some professor’s liking. I don’t know how people in Academia make it unless they are MEGA thick skinned. You are only as good as your latest publication and why do professors have to act like they are SO SUPERIOR to everyone? The whole PhD experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Everyone is always being compared to other colleagues. Can’t we just share knowledge and participate in constructive debate rather than hold people to standards of perfection and slam other people’s work in a nasty manner???….so glad to be away from it all !!!!
