Guest Post by Belinda Shale : Why Should You Take Part In Medical Market Research?

on February 20, 2012

Judith has very kindly asked me to write a guest post for her blog about the use of survey and marketing research and how it can help improve healthcare.
Firstly as an act of full disclosure I should say I am a market researcher who works in healthcare research. So yes I do have an interest in persuading people to work with us to co-create better healthcare options.
Over the last few years people like you have had a greater say in the kinds of medical treatment you or the people you love receive. The types of treatment options have increased especially with the growth of non-prescription medication and alternative medicine. Equally, many patients and their caregivers are far better informed than they once were about their conditions.
This is one of the reasons that the government, pharmaceutical companies and physicians are more aware that they need to improve how they communicate with you and also to find out what you think and need, both now and in the future.
Essentially market research gives a voice to people, like you, a chance to have some influence over the kind of healthcare you receive. It is about you, your thoughts, your feelings – without you, pharmaceutical companies and other health providers may miss that vital link connecting them to their patients. By providing us with your views and opinions through the market research surveys we offer, you may contribute to the quality and value of the products and services offered to you.
One way of participating is by joining a panel or community of people who have decided to pre –register to participate in market research.
We run once such ailment panel or patient community called The Patients Voice. To find out a bit more about this community please go to http://www.thepatientsvoice.org/default.asp
We also run a patient and caregiver blog called The Patient Experience. The Patient Experience is a set of discussion forums where patients connect, express their views and share valuable experiences on the subjects of medicine and healthcare. The forums are FREE and open to all.
The forums allow you to interact with other people in your situation and share information and experiences. Thus helping you on your journey through your or a loved one’s medical problems and challenges.
To have a look please go to http://www.patient-experience.com/
Belinda works in medical market research. She is a community manager at The Patients Voice.
